Today was the main feature of our trip; it was time for us to visit Everest Base Camp. We had an early start this morning because we had a long day of hiking planned. We were eating breakfast while it was dark out and still determining if we all thought we needed another rest day before we tried to reach Base Camp.

Ryan had a little bit of altitude sickness and Nate had a bout yesterday. We decided to push through and headed out. It was a long day of trekking. We stopped in the late morning for some garlic soup (this is what the Sherpa’s eat to treat altitude sickness) and then headed on. Along the way we all dealt with some form of altitude sickness, resting and dropping packs when needed but we finally made it to Everest Base Camp! We hung up our prayer flags and signed a rock for Hike For Help.

But we weren’t done yet…then it was time to head back. We stopped at the same place we had soup, we took a rest and had lunch. After lunch it was back to Lobuche. In total we hiked about ten hours today and we’re all spent. Our Sherpa’s also informed us that we maxed out at about 18,000 ft. We’re all still floored with how incredibly in shape Sherpas are!

Now it’s bedtime. Oh yeah…did we mention we climbed to Everest Base Camp?

Here’s a look at hiking above 16,500 ft…
